Catholic Academy | Hamburg

The existing building of the Catholic Academy was built in the 1970s as a reinforced concrete construction directly adjacent to the “Kleiner Michel”, the Catholic Church of St. Ansgar, in the centre of Hamburg. In its interior, hexagons are a constantly recurring element: columns, tiles, ceiling and layout of rooms are subject to this form and today still reflect the spirit of that age.

As the state of the building can no longer keep pace with the requirements profile for modern academic usage, MPP has been commissioned with drawing up plans for the conversion of this building, which is to be found on the list of buildings worthy of protection. A concept has here been worked out in close cooperation with the Department for the Protection of Historical Monuments and the user that will lead to a long-term increase in the quality of the rooms in accordance with the standards of today.
